WordCamp Nicaragua 2025 Recap

WordCamp Nicaragua 2025 hosted 235 attendees from 20 cities and 5 countries at the HEX Convention Center in Managua, on July 26.

A dedicated team of 17 volunteers from all over the country made the event possible.

Building WordPress

This year’s Contributor Day was held online, the day before WordCamp, and open to participants from across the country and abroad. The day kicked off at 9:00 AM with a welcome and team introductions, followed by a brief presentation about the local WordPress community.

Participants were then invited to choose from six contribution areas: Community, Photos, Plugins, Support, Translation, and Testing. Each table lead explained what kind of contributions are made in their area, helping newcomers understand how they could get involved. After that, attendees spent time actively contributing to their chosen teams.

The day wrapped up with a group session where each team shared a brief summary of their work and experiences.

Disruptive Innovation as the Core Theme

This year’s theme, «Disruptive Innovation,» shaped every part of the event. From bold, eye-catching branding to a more casual and approachable tone in our communications, we wanted everything to feel fresh and different.

We also brought that energy to the schedule. Sala B was our space to experiment—with formats like the Speed Build Challenge, where developers raced to build a website live; the Rally WordCamp, a fun elevator pitch-style session; plus panels and interactive talks. The goal was to go beyond just watching talks; we wanted people to participate, create, and rethink what a WordCamp session can be.

The Future of WordCamp Nicaragua

This edition of WordCamp Nicaragua marked an important shift; it was our first event organized under our new governance model. With this change, we made a conscious effort to promote leadership renewal and open up participation to new voices.

Through public calls for organizers, team leads, volunteers, speakers, and sponsors, we invited the entire community to get involved and help shape the event. The result was a mix of new and experienced organizers that brought fresh ideas to the table.

Looking ahead, WordCamp Nicaragua will likely become a bi-annual event, giving us more space to support local WordCamps in different parts of the country. In 2026, we hope to see events emerge in cities where active WordPress meetup groups are growing. This way, we can continue strengthening the community from the ground up; fostering collaboration, learning, and leadership at every level.
